Along with the abnormally warm temperatures yesterday, we also had some thunderstorms that developed later in the afternoon. On the GEM displays (link below) there actually two different options for the thunderstorm intensity parameter (TIP) on that uses the lcl for a predictor and one that uses total precipitable water. In general the latter is the better choice to use but there are occasions where using the original lcl version might be beneficial. For your interest, here is a comparison between the two versions. Both showed an area of potential but the lcl version was less subtle than the pw version. Besides the predictors used with the TIP (muCAPE, Storm Relative Helicity, 0-6km Wind shear, Moisture component lcl or pw) other things like surface convergence are or synoptic scale are useful but including this product in your workup routine could be helpful as well.
